Comma outside the quotation mark

Hello,

I am not succeeding in finding the way how to put the comma outside the quotation mark. In the following example my style guide requires the comma after the closing single quotation mark: Gooding, 'Ahab,' 210. I want 'Ahab', 210. In this case, 'Ahab' is short title for a journal article. How do I do this?

Thanks

I don't think you can. The proper form (as I've been told by many users) is to put the comma inside the closing quote, so Bookends does that automatically when using cited pages (which I assume you are). If you don't want that, don't use cited pages, use quoted text to add the page number:

{temp cite\, 210\}

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your reply. The convention of where to put the comma or punctuation is more to do with the practice in the US versus UK/Europe, I think. For example, the publisher T&T Clark requires to put the punctuation outside. Anyway, I tried what you told me, but it makes no difference. I think I am not getting it. How do I use quoted text? Where is that command? Is that command in Bookends or Mellel? Will I still be able to use a reference from Bookends? Could you pls give me more detailed instruction?

Thanks

Hi Jon,

I should have said that T&T Clark UK requires the punctuation outside the comma.
I think, in the future updates it would be nice to have the option open for customers to choose.

Thanks

I provided an example of quoted text in the first reply

{temp cite\, 210\}

(the use of backslashes). Try that.
