Bookends Hanging on Startup with Mellel

I have recently updated to the most recent versions of Bookends and Mellel. Bookends has started hanging (read, "spinning beachball") when started in conjunction with Mellel. Any ideas why this is happening? After a minute or two, the problem resolves, but it is irritating.

Also, Crtl-Y no longer simply inserts a formated reference into my document. Is this due to some new feature? I am currently dragging and dropping the reference into the document, but it is a bit more cumbersome.
