Name-date options, normal case

Under Formats manager:Citation options, the name-date citation style seems to capitalize the author name by default. I can't see a way to change this. If I do a custom citation style, I can get close, but there I can't get two authors to be separated by "and".

You want the author names uncapitalized? I believe Bookends will output them as entered (can't test now). In any case, for a custom format Bookends follows the rules entered for names (Name Punct tab).

I want the names capitalized in a consistent manner, not how they were entered. For bibliographic formatting the capitalization is settable, but the the citation it is not. Which means that the format must be consistent in the database itself, which is a bit difficult to achieve if the references come form disparate sources.
So, to reiterate, YES, I can get he capitalization correct using a custom setting, but I can't get a citation with two authors to be separated by an "and".
in other words, this is a two-part problem. I'll repeat:
1. Need to get citation capitalization consistent and settable (all caps or normal case). (This is possible with the custom settings.)
2. Need in the custom citation options to be able to separate two authors with "and". (This is possible with the "standard settings" name-date format.)
As you can see, there are conflicting and inconsistent settings available between the custom and standard options.

I don't get the confusion. In the format's custom settings, Name Punctuation tab, you tell Bookends what you want output between the next to last and last authors ("between last names") in the citation. Enter " and ". If this doesn't make sense, please contact tech support directly and I'll walk you through it.

This process is unbelievably obtuse.
I need "and" between TWO authors. In lists of THREE OR MORE, no "and".
Again, this is an option in the Author-Date citation style, and not available in the custom style.
So, now that I've stated this three times, is there a solution that allows me to have two normal case authors separated by "and"? I know the answer, I'm just waiting for you to say no before I list the next few bugs I've found.

In the format's custom citation section you tell Bookends to use "et al." if there are more than 2 authors, insert after the first.
In the Name Punctuation tab, lower half that applies to Custom Citations, you tell Bookends to use
and
between last names.
You'll get
Smith C and Jones, L
for two authors, and
Smith C et al. for 3 or more.
