insert bibliographic citation instead of name-date or number

Is there a way to insert an entire bibliographic reference (instead of a name-date or number) in place of a temporary citation? This would be handy for footnotes that contain referneces. I see that it is possible to set up a "custom" style, but this would be a duplication of the bibliography styles, and so seems a bit cumbersome. Could we have an option for this as a standard style?

You have the option. For custom formats Bookends will output whatever you tell it. That's what custom formats are generally used for -- footnotes. If you want the same output as the bibliography, just copy/paste the instructions for the bibliography to the custom format order field.

Yes, I understand that, as I said, but then there are two settings to maintain, and one must remember to update both. If there were an option in the "standard" settings to use the bibliographic setting, then there would be only one.

I don't know of any format that uses the same output for footnotes and bibliographies. They are separate and distinct entries.

Are they? How so? If I want a bibliographic entry in a footnote, how would that be different, in your opinion?

You would create the custom citation to be whatever you want. If you want it to look like the bibliography entry, then enter the bibliography format you want output in the Order field. E.g.

a (d) t. v:p.

in the custom citation Order field. For references of whatever Type you do this for, the in-text citation (footnote in your case) will be

author (date) title:page.
