Just upgraded to v.12.01. When I 'Copy Formatted' [commmand K] to my wordprocessor [Mellel] the text is always unformatted Lucida Grande 11 instead of my default font with formatting.

Any idea what the problem might be? Did I miss something?

Will 'Copy Formatted' to other applications like Evernote, MS Word, Textedit.
Reverted to earlier version of Mellel, still doesn't work.
Am running 10.8.4.
Very puzzling.

Make sure the default fonts in Bookends preferences (for refs and bib) are set to something with styled faces (e.g. Arial and Times New Roman, respectively, which are the defaults). If the problem is specific for Mellel (which I think you're saying in the second post), then the citation settings in Mellel are overriding what Bookends is sending. You'll have to ask RedleX tech support about that.

Thanks. I hadn't appreciated how good Bookends' support was until I tried to get support from Redler. They've ignored my emails, don't allow forum registration, are absent, unresponsive, in sum they are horrible!

I don't know what I should do here. Mellel is clashing with Bookends 12 and I can't seem to get anyone to help me solve the problem. Any ideas?

Take a look at the Mellel bibliography preferences window: Edit -> Bibliography -> Bib and Cit. Style Mapping. If changing the settings there don't help, I'd post to the RedleX forum. The users there are quite helpful.

If you can't post there because you haven't been able to register, then posting more details here might be almost as useful. I think that quite a few of us who use Mellel and Bookends hang out here too.

I'm running 10.8.4 on a new Macbook Pro.

Cmd K in Bookends should 'copy formatted' selected reference(s) and automatically paste them to the cursor in Mellel. The reference should be formatted according to my default bibliography font in Bookends. In the past this worked fine. Now when I cmd K in Bookends it automatically pastes the reference into Mellel, but instead of formatting it according to the default bibliography font, it's formatted Lucida Grande 11 pt.

All of these problems started when I simultaneously upgraded to Bookends 12 and Mellel 3.2.2 from 3.1.3
That's the problem. Here's what I've done to try and solve it.

I reverted to Mellel 3.1.3. Same problem.
Closed Mellel the copy formatted to Evernote, Textedit. No problem. Appears as Minion Pro 11pt, my default font.
Could revert to Bookends 11 [Jon is this possible?]
Copied formatted text from Firefox, from Evernote, from Textedit, then pasted it into Mellel. Always pastes as Lucida Grande regardless of original formatting (it does conserve bold and font size though).
Changed the style mapping in Mellel for citations and bibliography. Makes no difference. Same problem.


Questions.
Does anyone use Mellel 3.2.2 and Bookends 12? Have you had this problem? What settings should I check?
How do I reinstall Bookends 12? Do I just make copies of my libraries then delete everything?
Does anyone have a bead on RedleX? I use Mellel for all my research, writing, projects etc. While this problem is very annoying, it could be worse; If they don't provide any support I'm not sure I would be confortable using Mellel anymore. I encouraged my research group to switch to Mellel, and now it galls me that they ignore my emails etc.

Any other advice or ideas...?

This isn't a Bookends issue -- when I Copy Formatted the text is inserted in Mellel as Times New Roman (correct). I think it likely has to do with your settings in Mellel Edit -> Bibliography -> Bib & Cit. style Mapping. Take a look there. Hopefully other's who use Mellel routinely can be helpful here.

Yes, you're right, it's not a Bookend problem. Was just hoping someone who uses Mellel might be able to help.

I use Mellel 3.2.2 and Bookends 12.03. In Bookends preferences make sure default font for bibliography is set to what you want (I tested using Verdana 24pt to make sure I got a different font to Mellel). In Mellel preferences make sure bibliography manager is set to Bookends. I would also suggest using a blank Mellel document to make sure everything is set up. If it works for the blank document you may have an issue with your original document settings. Also make sure you have no font substitutions active in Mellel.

Mellel developers do seem to be slow to react but the program is so rock solid I would not advise changing to another word processor. FYI I use Scrivener for drafting and Mellel just for layout and final finishing. I don't use copy formatted myself as I have to adhere to APA style.

Yes, I agree that Mellel is strong, but ocassionally one needs the advice of experts in order to solve problems quickly, and in that regard, Mellel is very weak indeed.

I had already checked nearly everything you suggested, but what you said did help me clarify the problem.

This is the problem as it stands : I cannot copy text formatted in certain fonts (Minion Pro, Albertina, Apollo, Baskerville, Avenir, etc. etc. nearly all fonts) from other applications (Evernote, Bookends etc.) and paste them so formatted into Mellel.

The only fonts that work are Times New Roman, Lucida Grande, Courier New, and maybe some others, what appear to be system fonts or very commonly used fonts. What's puzzling is that the fonts that don't work are all available in Mellel and I can use them in documents etc. I just can't copy text formatted with them from outside Mellel into Mellel.

Now there are probably numerous things I should now check in order to narrow down the problem, but I'm not really sure where to begin. If only I could contact RedleX who actually sold me the software, and who would obviously know much better than I do how to approach this efficiently...

Have you tried safe booting; using a fresh user account; cleaning font caches?

BTW, did you post on their forum (I didn't see any, but perhaps I missed it)? If not, you should. And if you did, you might give it a bump.

Have you checked fontbook to see that the fonts are validated correctly?
