Custom Reference formats not Working?

I'm currently using the introductory version of bookends 11, and I'm having trouble with custom references, I'm debating whether or not to buy this, as I cannot STAND endnote on a Mac.

I go to the formats manager, create a new format based on the format I have selected, and it won't let me change anything. The first problem I run into is that the drop down list for type has everything twice. It has "Journal Article" then right below another "Journal Article". Secondly, the changes I make to it never have any effect. Say, I'll type a, (d) into the "Primary Order" box, and nothing will happen. The "Example" won't change. (Although I expected it to have author, (date) with the author in the order that I had selected in the drop down menus.) If I switch from Journal Article to something else, then back, my changes have all disappeared.

It works correctly if I Add a New type, then select unused. Then anytime I change something it'll change the example, and my changes persist. What's going on here, this is kind of a deal breaker as it's a very important part of any references software...

I'm going to try to download the introductory version of 12, and see if that works better.

EDIT: (Hm, seems to work fine in Bookends 12) Maybe it's just a bug in that particular version (considering I downloaded it a very long time ago, I'm not surprised.)

Eh, well, I ordered bookends 12 (because my library quickly hit the 50 reference limit). So I guess the problem isn't really a problem anymore!

I can't say what the problem with the old copy of 11.x was, I've never seen anything like that. Conceivably a local permissions issue that affect the formats folder (the one used by 12 is different from the one used by 11).
