batch tagging/sorting

Hi Jon / Forum,
I'm working on a big lit review library just now of about 450 references.
I was looking for a way of 'sorting' these into ones I have read and ones I have printed out.
I tried creating a 'field'? By changing one of the User# ones to 'Read' and 'Printed', but I'd like to be able to 'batch tag' this way, i.e. select 50 or refs that I have printed out and tag those as 'Printed', Read or whatever so that I can filter and see these. Doing what I did and it seems that I can only tag these one at a time so I'm sure I'm coming at this the wrong way.
Is there a way to 'batch tag references?
Thanks
Philip
PS: Another great feature would be the ability to see in the library which of the 450 refs I have used and inserted into the paper and wick ones I haven't. Is this possible?
