Sending by email uses Apple Mail. It would be much better to use the default email client (not Mail in my case). Even Safari "send to email" option uses the default client and not Mail.

I'll have check, but I believe that it does use the default client. However, automatically appending attachments to the email requires Mail. That's because there is no standard for doing this, and a Mail-specific AppleEvent is used.

You are correct. The default email client is used when there is no attachement and Mail is used when there is one. It is a pity if it is not possible to do otherwise.

As I said, there is no standard for programatically adding attachments to an email. Apple Mail has a mechanism for doing this. I don't know about other clients. I looked at some when this features was added and they didn't support this functionality.
