Syncing one Bookends database to several iOS devices

I have one Bookends database that I use and maintain on my Mac. In addition, I have an iPhone and and iPad that both have BOT installed. I recently realized that syncing BOT on the iOS devices with Bookends only adds stuff added since the last sync, regardless of the fact if the last sync actually came from the same device.
To put this another way:
1. I add references A to D to my database.
2. I sync with my iPad. A to D are added.
3. I add references E to G to my database.
4. I sync with my iPhone. ONLY references E to G are added.
Can this somehow be fixed? Is there a short-term workaround that I could use? Or am I doing something wrong?
