Struggling with "Replicate as Book Chapter"

Post by Cassady »

Hello all,

I was very pleased when I stumbled across this feature – very useful, particularly with the Cmd+] shortcut, to quickly feed in several references as different chapters from one book.
I thought I understood it, but something unexpected is happening when I scan my completed document.

The Manual appears to suggest that this is for a "Edited Book, Book, or Conference Proceedings" – and by example, an "edited book's Title is placed in the book chapter's Book Title field".

I think I'm starting things incorrectly, in my replicating from an already-created "Book Chapter" reference? Could that be the problem?

What is happening this side, is the "Book Title" field is being automatically pulled-in from the "(chapter) Title" field of the initial reference, which appears to be throwing things?

When I manually delete the Book Title field, and leave it blank – the Formatted View appears to suggest all is well, but when I scan, I'm having unexpected results.

Anyone else trying this and managing to get it to work as expected?

Yes, that's the problem. This feature was really added for conversion from a Book or Edited Book. I'll either disable it for Book Chapters or implement it properly.

Thanks Jon – if I could request it as a feature:

Certain books might have 10/15 chapters, written by different authors. Everything obviously remains the same, with the exception of the page numbers; Chapter title; short title of Chapter title; and, the Author.

What I was hoping would work, is where I complete the 1st entry as a Chapter in Book, manually. I then Replicate as Chapter from this entry.
Ideally, all would remain the same, seeing my only having to change the page numbers, Chapter title, Short title of Chapter [I created this under a User! field, to suit my needs – so not necessary] and Author.

This would save plenty of time. Of course – I could simply duplicate the original several times, and change the specific fields manually, which is what I will do now. But if it could be 'automated' as the others, that would be very useful.

Yes, it's already done. This fix will be in the next update.
