Linking several refs to one attachment?

Hi again. I got a question about linking several references to one attachment file. I wonder if anyone can tell me how to do this quickly. Mostly this applies to edited books with each chapter from a different author.
Basically, I realised at some point that it does not make any sense to split the edited book pdf into separate chapters. I much rather have one attachment for the whole book. But of course I need separate references for each chapter. Bookends of course produces these easily with the "Replicate as a book chapter" function.
So when I get a new edited book the workflow is like this:
1. Create the "master" ref for the edited book.
2. Attach the pdf book to the master ref.
3. Create replicate refs for book chapter as needed.
4. For each of these replicates, create a link to the pdf book attached to the master ref.
So far, I've simply been doing this manually. But would there be some quicker way to automatically link the attachment to the master ref also to all of the replicants?
----
Additional feature request: Perhaps one day in the future there could be more interaction with the parent and children. So that if I need to edit the master ref (the usual case is that I've entered a typo to the name or something) I could just edit that one ref and the change would percolate into all the child references as well. Or is that functionality already there, but I just haven't found it? (This seems to be the case often with Bookends
