Swiss libraries

Post by emiliospeciale »

It would be nice to have a filter for all the libraries in Switzerland.
Here is the link: https://www.swissbib.ch/
Thanks!

It's easy to create any filter you want. Find eh z39.50 info for the library (Google for that) and enter it on the Internet tab of a new filter you create that's based on an existing filter.

Thanks Jon, as usual…
The fact is that the Swissbib site does not work on a z39.50 net.
I have found this:
Swissbib hat keine Z39.50 aber eine SRU-Schnittstelle: http://www.swissbib.org/wiki/index.php?title=SRU
I have no idea what a SRU is!!!
Thank you

You can google for it.

http://www.loc.gov/standards/sru/

Bookends has SRU support for particular sites (I believe JSTOR is one), but it's not available via the import filter mechanisms, which is Z39.50-compliant.

It seems that more and more of the big (national etc.) libraries are moving away from z39.50 to SRU. This happens also in the Scandinavian countries for example (they still offer both routes of access but want to cut off z39.50 in the future.)

Do you think it is possible (necessary) to expand Bookends support for SRU-based import? (Apologies if this question doesn't make sense – it’s been a while since I last dabbled with SRU and libraries, but I have two e-mails in my inbox from users asking me to adept filters that I once did for libraries to the new standard because the old one does not work anymore…)

Well, we'll have to see. It would be a major new feature, I don't think it would fit in with the Z39.50 filter UI we have now.

Thanks for the update, Jon. (This seems not a pressing issue, at least, but in the long run probably a Good Thing.) :)
