Hi,

I like to use tags to organise my references, and for small words is usually easy for me to write the tag than to search the tag list, but sometimes it happens that I mistype a new tag and just notice that after hitting "Enter", after which the tag is saved. I then ask to edit the tag to correct the spelling, but I found that the mistyped tag is still stored with the database. This is particularly annoying because 1) the tag field seems to lack of a autocomplete feature (and sometimes I write "Review" vs. "Reviews") and 2) the tags pile up all together cluttering each other.
By the way, the autocomplete feature for tags would be very nice to have.

I've just started using Bookends so I don't really know if there's any way to remove unwanted tags from the database. I searched the preferences panel and the manual but didn't find a way to do this.
Is there any way of removing unwanted tags, from the database itself and not only from the reference?

Another question is that the user created tags don't have any colour. Is it possible to colour a new tag created by the user?

What are you calling a "tag"? A keyword? A PDF tag? Or something else?

sorry, I'm referring to PDF tags.

I think that BE can also use keywords in a similar way, which I think is a bit confusing for me, at least for now, since I alway associate keywords with the original metadata of a reference (e.g. scientific papers usually, but not alway, have keywords associated with the publication, so I tend to write these ones out in the keywords field of BE). The PDF tags would be ones I attribute, for my own purpose. I don't know if this is the best way of working with BE, so any advice would also be very welcome.

Yes, keywords are very useful as part of a reference's metadata.

PDF tags of course belong to the PDF, and follow it even if it's used by another application.

You can remove a tag from a PDF, but it stays in the Bookends library. And you can't assign it a color in Bookends (you can define it in Finder preferences, with color, and then use it in Bookends -- that's a viable workaround).

As for autocomplete -- right-click on the empty tag item and Bookends will offer you choices.

Finally, I don't know what you mean the "pile up". You mean the display of tags? They're just listed horizontally.

Ahah, thanks for tip. I didn't know tags were synchronised with Finder. This was very helpful.
Is there any workaround to remove unwanted PDF tags from the Bookends library? This was my initial question.

Yes, I know this, but, at least for me, it would be helpful to do this while writing, without taking my hands of the keyboard to hold the mouse and then return to the keyboard again (the work flow would be easier). Maybe when the word that is being typed is unique to a saved tag, that tag could start showing. For example, if 2 PDF tags named "Rocks" and "Review" already exist, when I start writing "R" in the PDF tag field nothing happens, but if I write "Re" the word "Review" would show to autocomplete. I guess it could be a nice feature.

No workaround. But I've added it to the list of things I'll look into once the cloud sync Bookends release is out and stable. I think it should be do-able.

It might be a nice feature, but it's actually quite a complicated feature to do right. Given that we offer another solution (right-click) this would not be a high priority.
