How to keep certain folder from showing in All

Post by Nhaps »

Here is my problem. I have about 20k references and BE is slowed down because of it. My database has a lot of attachments and it's almost 200MB. Half of these references I don't use much, and they are stored in a static folder marked by a keyword. Is there any way I can prevent that given folder from appearing in All? This would be a nice feature, and would make BE faster.

Now, I know that such thing would actually defeat the purpose of the name All, but it's a shot in dark anyway. The other way around it is putting everything that is not marked by that keyword in a static folder, but that's cumbersome because every new reference will require a manual transfer. A previous post talked about Locking a folder, which is an interesting idea to preserve permanent number of references; it would be nice if one could prevent such locked folder from appearing in All as well. Or at least the option to customize both ways.

By the way, BE just keeps getting better and better; I can hardly keep up with all the features :)

That's not possible. I have two suggestions, though.

1. Increase the database cache in Preferences. For 20K references I'd bump it to 20 MB. You might also try more and to see what the best value is.

2. Export your rarely used references to another library and delete them from your working library. This way you'd have them if you need them, but they aren't taking up space in your library. If you do this, Rebuild to recover the unused space.

1. Bumped up to 50MB cache
2. Moved folder to different library

I notice that rebuilt result has reduced the size of the file drammatically. Has worked well, thanks
