Until tonight (just updated the app) I've been importing bibtex formatted reference data (from the ACM Library) via the clipboard. Currently, the Import dialog (Cmd+Shift+i) has the clipboard option greyed out. Also, I think there used to be a bibtex option in the format popup in the import dialog. I've checked the change log but don't see anything there relating to this feature.
Is there some setting I need to (re-)make to enable import of bibtex data from the clipboard?
(using v12.7.6 on OS 10.12.0)
Thanks.
v12.7.6 - import bibtex from clipboard?
Re: v12.7.6 - import bibtex from clipboard?
Because of the changes that had to be made to format and filter names (addition of extensions), the old names of the checked format and filter items no longer match. I made a silent update just now (Wednesday, Oct. 5, 6 PM, EDT) that updates them as well as adding the appropriate extensions to the formats and filters files in the custom folders, so this shouldn't be a problem going forward. But if you upgraded to 12.7.6 in the first 24 hr after release, you can easily fix the problem by going to the Formats and Import Filter Manager and checking (marking) the formats/filters you want to use.

Thanks, that works nicely. When the hood's up next on the User Guide, the 'Import references' section pp282-283 would be improved if mentioned the method (in your reply above) of adding extra formats to the drop-down default list via the Import Filer Manager. Or, it could be covered elsewhere and linked. Either way, I couldn't find this technique in manual - I was looking to check I'd not overlooked something and to help me remember the method for the future. Minor issue - in perusing the manual I noticed the screen grab at the top of p152 might warrant updating as it shows the old app icon and early OS X UI.
Noticing the import filters now have file extensions (for reasons you've explained) I opened the Formats manager and note that all format listed now have an extension except those currently selected. If I unselect them, they list unbolded but still with no extension. Is this something else I need to fix. FWIW, I downloaded a fresh copy of v12.7.6 and the effect was still the same but I suspect the changes in the silent update apply one-time on update from a previous version and so were already applied by the original v12.7.6 install?
Thanks for your rapid and helpful response, I'm happily back to importing bibtex data from the clipboard.

Re: v12.7.6 - import bibtex from clipboard?
That is correct. If you were updating from 12.7.5 or earlier the changes would have been made automatically. In your case you could remove your Bookends Preferences file from the Bookends folder so Bookends will think it's a fresh install of 12.7.6.mwra wrote:FWIW, I downloaded a fresh copy of v12.7.6 and the effect was still the same but I suspect the changes in the silent update apply one-time on update from a previous version and so were already applied by the original v12.7.6 install?
