What I made wrong?

Bookends only treats the Volume fields as special (i.e. having two virtual components) for Journal Articles and Magazines. I believe that if you put the word Journal in the name of the Type it will treat it as special, too (that's in the docs). So rename that Type (you can use the default Journal Article).
