Associating files for single–click importing?

Post by iandol »

If I associate *.nbib or *.ris files to use Bookends and double-click a *.nbib/*.ris file in the Finder (or in my case open it from my browser), BE focusses and also opens the import requester automatically. But if I do the same to a *.bib file (my preferred export from Web of Science), although BE becomes focussed it does not offer an import requester and I have to activate import manually. The same happens for *.ciw files for example. Any way to set this up?

These are hardcoded in Bookends. .bib is a special case because that's the extension of the BibTeX data sent directly from Delicious Library to Bookends. However, I see that option no longer exists in DL 3, so I'll make it available for general use. I'll add .ciw to the list.

Great, thanks Jon!

While I'm here I'll ask though this is only minor — it would be nice if the import filter menu could change to match the file type that is being opened, i.e. RIS for *.ris, BibTeX for .bib etc.

Bookends already does that -- but it hasn't for the last few updates because of an oversight on my part when we started enforcing the use of the .fltr extension for import filters. It will work as it should again in the next update.
