Using emojis in Bookends

A user in another thread asked whether, when using small caps for names, it would be possible to output the conjunction "and" in lowercase. The answer was no.

I thought I had found a feasible solution to this problem when I clicked on the "Name Punctuation" button in the Formats Manager and entered an emoji in front of "and". I chose an emoji because it stands out, both in Bookends and in the text document.
After scanning the document, a simple Nisus macro could easily fix "and".
At first this seemed perfect. Then after I switched between formats a few times, a number of anomalies began to appear in Bookends. Even the columns in the Library window disappeared all but one. As soon as I removed the emoji, everything went immediately back to normal.
I use emojis extensively in Bookends' group and folder names. They not only spruce up the otherwise rather monotone gray interface, but they are also of great help when navigating a large number of groups. Country related references, for example, can be sorted into groups with corresponding flags. This is a great boon.
I have never, knock on wood, noticed any glitches in Bookends that can be traced to the use of emojis in group and folder names.
I wonder now if the integrity of emojis in Formats Manager could be enhanced?
