This bug has been around for a while.
When I drag multiple PDF files to BE and tell it to generate separate references for each of them, BE at some point stops generating new references and attaches them into one of the references. In a typical case, BE starts to generate separate references for each file, and, at some point, it starts to putt them into one references--creating a bunch of orphan files.
- I used to alleviate the problem by dragging smaller number of files (around 10 at a time)
- this never happens when the files come via Watch folder.
Drag and drop: multiple files attach to a single reference
Re: Drag and drop: multiple files attach to a single reference
Does it happen with a fresh new database?

P.S. I just attached 30 PDFs to a fresh library via drag and drop -- 30 references were created.

Yes, it does happen with new database.
Right, the issue is not consistent. I sometimes also get it right. I will try to observe the factor and report back.
