Does Time Machine back up files in iCloud Drive / Bookends?

Are attachments in the Bookends folder in iCloud Drive still backed up by Time Machine? Do those files still reside on my machine anywhere, or are they "only" in the cloud?

I think I've got syncing working between my Mac and Bookends for iOS on my iPad; yesterday I managed to create the "Bookends" folder in iCloud Drive, and I moved all the attachments to that folder, and that seems to be working well with the iPad. But now I realized that I'm not sure if those files are going to be in Time Machine.

When I enter Time Machine, I do see the iCloud Drive / Bookends folder, but I've been burnt with that with iCloud before (with Contacts) and discovered that what looked like an archived retrievable file wasn't actually retrieveable.

New user, so I'm still early in the learning curve (for both Bookends and iCloud Drive!) but thanks for the great software.

Yes, files are stored locally in ~/Library/Mobile Documents/ and this folder should be backed up by Time Machine.
