database size

Post by midas »

I am curious whether there is an explicit maximum size for a database. If no explicit value, is there a point where performance drops significantly? What aspects of performance might drop with increasing database size? Thanks.

We have users with 70K+ references, but I'm sure they're feeling a lag. If you maximize the database cache in preferences, I think you'll find performance perfectly acceptable up to 20-25 thousand references, and for many 50 thousand will be acceptable. Of course this varies with the speed of your machine and whether you have an SSD (of fusion drive) or not. What slows down is refreshing the display of the references -- things like searching and formatting speed are not affected.
