Short titles in Bookends + Mellel

I am working in MLA style 8th edition, which allows for short titles to disambiguate multiple texts by the same author. Like the full titles of books, the short titles should be italicized. I have the formats manager in Bookends set up to reflect this.

The tricky thing is that sometimes the short title will be passed to Mellel un-italicized. I've found that actions that trigger a refresh of the live bibliography in Mellel sometimes, but not always, are enough to resolve the issue. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this issue and has any advice as to how to manage it?

Mellel is the final arbiter of how styled text is shown in the citations. See the various style sheets they have. You might also ask this of Mellel tech support.
