Right-click should select item

Other applications select the item under the mouse pointer when right-clicked. Bookends does not. This leads to my changing (for instance), the color of refs that are scrolled off screen. If I click another ref after, I lose track of where the change took place.

This is by design. Right-click operations often involve working with all of the selected references. That would not be possible if the right-click deselected other references and selected the reference clicked on. If you want to work on only a single reference and multiple are selected, left-click on it and then right-click

Finder supports this, as do other applications.

In the Finder if you have multiple items selected and then right-click on a new one, the hierarchical menu item applies only to the latter (i.e Open, Label, etc.). As I explained, *by design* Bookends lets you apply the action to all the selected items. This is how the action would work if you used a normal menu rather than a right-click as well. This is a feature, not a bug. If you want the hierarchical choice to apply a single reference, select it with a left click and then do a right click.
