I'm having trouble working out how to use the op cit and loc cit terms with Bookends. Ibid is appropriate if a work is being cited again without an intervening citation, but if there is an intervening citation, then I want to use op cit if I'm citing a different page number from an already cited work, and loc cit if the page number is the same (a summary is at http://www.olinda.com/Art/footnotes.htm )

Can Bookends do this?

No. Bookends will use Ibid. (with page numbers if appropriate), but not op cit or loc cit.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but are there any plans to implement "op. cit." and "loc. cit." in future updates? I don't mean to sound like a nag, but it's a fairly standard practice to employ these terms rather than a ubiquitous ibid. when a work is being cited again but not sequentially (in the humanities and social sciences, anyway). I'm excited to begin using Bookends, but I'm thinking that I won't be able to use the Scan Document feature with much confidence until their implementation becomes standard. Or is there a way around all of this?

I can't say it will never be implemented, but we have no plans to do it in the foreseeable future. Actually, I believe you're the first person who ever requested it.

Well, yeah. I've been doing some research on the whole thing today, and it seems that I've been a little atavistic in my use of the two—good to know. Sorry to bother!

I had been wondering about that too actually, even though I never used the op cit loc cit in my dissertation (in French). Actually the CMS discourages their use (16.50). I guess it's probably better not to implement their use in BE, unless their use is demanded in other languages and formats where the market demand would make the feature worthwhile.
