Changing from Zotero

Post by jtorr » Wed Aug 07, 2019 12:31 pm

Hi, I've been using Zotero for a while, but changing to Bookends because of its compatibility with Mellel. I was wondering if there is a way to export old Word files which have citations generated from Zotero's Word plugin, so that I can edit them with bookends? Is there a format that Zotero could produce that a Bookends scan could then read? I've already transferred the library into bookends, so it has all the references stored, its just trying to get it to recognise the citations in the word document.
Thanks for the help!

What's a Zotero temporary citation look like in Word? If they're not temporary, but final citations, then Bookends certainly can't recognize them.

They are final citations, but there's a number of options for output (including user edited ones). Do they have to be in the form of curly brackets with a unique identified number for Bookends to recognise them?

They need a curly bracket (or one of the other options in preferences) but do NOT need a unique identifier. They do need enough information for Bookends to match the reference in the library, but but don't include information that's not in the reference. For example, the title will work

{this is the title}

or author and date

{Smith A 2019}

But info that's not in the reference itself will prevent a match, such as

{Edited by Smith A}

because the words "edited by" are not in the library itself.
