I am experiencing a problem where the doi field is showing up in formatted references because in the library that field contains empty characters -- apparently three spaces. This is happening with both new and old references, ones with which there was no problem in the past. I enclose a screen shot: notice that the Lewis reference seems to have no doi, but the field is displayed in the formatted reference.

I have been going through by hand and deleting these spaces, but that is tedious work. Might it be possible for Bookends to treat this situation as an empty field, and so do the work for me?

Yes. But in the meantime, do a Global Change -> Find/Replace and tell Bookends to replace 3 spaces in the DOI field with nothing.

Replaced in 8202 references! Out of 16000. Wonder where they came from.
