italics disappear in bibliography

When I use the bibliography formatter to output the references as a bibliography, the italics of the titles (which appear correctly on the list window) disappear even though I checked "styled text" and output the file in .rtf. This is very frustrating indeed and I don't look forward to correcting all the titles by hand. I've checked all my settings and they seem to be correct. What can be the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I am not using "double formatting" either -- i.e. the titles are only in italics and not also in bold.

Bookends will force any font to display in italics if asked for, but word processors won't. Check to make sure the bib font you are using has an italic face available (check in Font Book).
