Hi,
I categorize the journal articles into
1) online available (I put the URL into the database-enty)
2) downloaded on my Mac
3) printed (and to find in my shelves)
Till now I wrote a short note into the abstract. Is there any field better suited to differeniate the categories 2) and 3) ?

Up to you. You can use one of the User-defined fields for this if you like (rename it to whatever you want, then use some notation like 'have pdf' and 'have reprint').
