Hi,
when copying text from an extern ressource like amazon.de I often get the text formatted (bigger size, another font, a color etc.). When I check it, I "Undo" it and do the "Paste Without Styles". But: Bookends remembers (sometimes, not always) the formatting in the now empty input-field. (maybe, it does not undo the format commands for the field).
How can I undo this unvisible (for me) formatting too?
When I then change the font into my "Times New Roman" I have to scroll the font list way way down. Is there any shorter way to
1) undo the formatting?
2) to change into Times New Roman?
In the preferences I have "Times New Roman" but as I see it that counts only for the bibliographies (in print?). Where do I tell Bookends to write all entries with Times New Roman / 14 / black?

Hi, I have been annoyed by this as well, because I often just click command-v without thinking and then the field is "contaminated" with the style. Jon probably has a better answer for you (and me) but what I usually do when this happens is to click on the title of the field, which is a button and brings up an extended sheet to write in. Here I can carefully press alt-command-v and get the text in unformmated.

I really doubt that this remembering of styles is something users would typically expect, and I would certainly prefer to have "undo" undo the styles as well.

However, what I really would like is an option in the preferences to swap behavior of cmd-v to paste without styles. I never use styled text in my references, if I do it by mistake it ruins the reference lists by taking on a different style than the rest of the references.

You can set the default reference font in Preferences (the same place you set the default bib font -- use the pop-up menu to select References, or Lists if you like).

As for fields "remembering" the style of the text that was deleted, that's not in my control -- it's a function of the RAD we use to build the GUI. Perhaps I can come up with a workaround.

Just to make sure I read the above thread correctly - does this mean at some point Bookends may add a preferences checkbox, "Paste unstyled by default" or something like?

I understand that styling is an important feature, but I've cut and pasted from web pages several thousand times today. Every time, I have to use the option-paste, because I just don't want purple arial 18, or whatever. I wonder if you took a poll how many people would check that button if you offered it to them? I would, but maybe it is only people who cut and paste from web pages who need it.

Style support in bibliographies is an interesting case. Many people use italic, bold, and underlining to convey structural information (although I don't). Very few use color or size. Font is a special case because of language support - although I suspect that most bibliographies are heavily slanted towards one language....

No, the thread dealt with Bookends not resetting the style to the default when styled text was completely deleted from the field.

I wouldn't mind making Paste Without Style the default for, say, any field except Abstract and Notes (it's already true for the drawer fields, which can't contain style info). But getting a clean interface becomes a problem (we already have a Paste Plain Text option). Perhaps these menu options could be reversed based on a setting in Preferences? Hm.

I agree, for those of us trying to avoid constant option-pasting and accidental formatting, it would be ideal to have a checkbox.

Perhaps a "Default unstyled" checkbox
Perhaps in Bookends > Preferences > General > Default Font

(However this isn't a high priority - after thousands of pastes, I've trained myself to use option-v every single time.)

Already done in 9.0.3 -- a Preferences option will let you assign Commnad-V to either Paste or Paste Plain Text.

Excellent! I've found the copying of styled text into to fields when I don't want it a minor but frequent annoyance. These ongoing tweaks to BE's features -- in quick response to user questions -- are one of the reasons why this application is hands-down the best of its kind.

The next release (9.0.3) is going to have a number of options that people have been requesting, and I think they will make marking, organizing, and retrieving information much more flexible.
