Failed to generate BibTeX key (user1)

My bookends recently stopped generating BibTeX key (user1 field) for me when I hit `Ref` > `Generate BibTeX Key`. Like nothing would happen. My old references do have their keys which were generated in the past. I don't know if there are any specific settings that I might have accidentally changed but am not aware of? FWIW, I've recently upgraded my Bookends to the latest version, and although I cannot say for sure, this issue seems to have appeared after the upgrade. Any ideas?
