Is there a way to delete reference types/reset to default?

I messed up a few reference types in the preferences menu. Is there a way to delete them or restore the defaults? Or do i have to manually change the metadata fields?

You can restore factory defaults by going to the Bookends folder (via the Bookends Help menu) and moving the file TypesAndLabels.txt to the Desktop. Then quit and relaunch Bookends.
If you want to fix just a few fields, then do that in Preferences, Refs tab, and enter the correct labels (or whatever you want).
