I've been getting the above error code (HTTP status code 503) for a couple of days when syncing (iCloud). Is there anything I can do to fix it? I've tried to relink library and just the general rebuild etc, but as far as I understand, this is some kind of server error?

Cloud Sync works for me for both Bookends v13 and v14, so maybe it's something on your network? Please try to restart your Mac and your router. If it still doesn't work please send a screenshot of the error message to support@referencesontap.com.
