Overriding of sort field(s)

Hi,
in German I do have a special problem. It might happen to some other languages too.
Names like "Gärtner" are sorted at the end of "G". They should be sorted as "Gaertner". Changing the name of the author into "Gaertner" helps but is not adequate.
A solution could be a sort field overriding field. Whenever Bookends finds a text in this field it should use it as first sort term. Otherwise it should use the author's name (or whatever the first sort field may be).
So whenever I have these names with "ä", "ö", "ü", or "ß" I could write into this overriding sort field the names with "ae", "oe", "ue", or "ss" respectively.
Or do I miss anything and my proposal is already within the features of Bookends?
