Bookends changes capitalization in printout

Post by gavagai »

I have an entry for an journal article by Feldman, Richard.
Title: Comments on DeRose's "Single Scoreboard Semantics"
In the listview Bookends gets it right.
Now I create a bibliography entry by
File / Print References /Format to use: Chicago 15th A
I do get the Print Panel and Select Preview. There I get

Feldman, Richard. "Comments on Derose's "Single Scoreboard Semantics"." The Philosophical Studies 119 (2004): 23-33.

Somebody (not me) has changed DeRose's name to Derose.
What am I doing wrong?

The format is no doubt set to output the title in Title Case. Since you don't want the name DeRose changed, enter it in the "Don't change case" list (in Preferences, Scan & Bibliography tab).

Thanks, I put DeRose into the list.
But, I don't want any name to be subject to change: If someone misspelled a name within a title I want (and have to) use the wrong title. That's a basic of scientific citation. So whenever I come up with a capital letter within a word in the title I have to put that name into the list, right?

Yes, of course. Bookends can't possibly know what words to leave alone unless you tell it. Things like DNA, proper compound names, etc.

Grüßgott Gavagai,

it sounds like you must enter "DeRose" or whatever into the list of exceptions that BE will not change, i.e. "USA" "DNA" "DNS" etc. There is no way around that situation in any other progs that I know.
