Hello, in the case import the same PDF twice, I will have two copies of the same paper (under two different names). I normally detach one of the two copies -- what happens to it? is it deleted, or does it live forever more taking up space in my hard drive? How do I find detached papers and delete them?

It's left alone, all you've done is remove its name from the Bookends database. To detach AND delete the PDF at the same time, use "Move To Finder Trash".

You can use File -> Marooned Attachments Manager to deal with attachments that don't have a corresponding entry in your library(ies). Please look this up in the User Guide (Help menu) to see how it works.
