microsoft word citations in footnotes

Hello,

I'm using mac os x ventura, word 16.72, Bookends 14.1.9. I am creating a footnote. I want to embed citations from Bookends in the footnote citation (e.g. {@Binder 1987} and then be able to press scan and have these tags turn into properly formtted footnotes in the Chicago style.

Instead what I am getting is that any citations in the in-terxt block work fine, but can't get anything to work inside wor'd footnote/endnote structure.

Is there a wy to get the skeletel formats in the footnoes converted? Does this work in Nisus writer but not in word? I seem to remember that this used to work just fine, but now I can't seem to make it work at all

best,
Erico

It should work as you describe. Please try with a fresh new document and see if it works then. If it does, please contact suppport@sonnysoftware.com and send your original document and your Bookends library as attachments (Compress the library if it's too large to email as is).

I would like to follow up with this, as I am having the same problem.

I try the Scan Document dialog and all it does for the footnotes (it is able to generate a bibliography, interestingly) is to turn the citation delimiters ({ }) into plain parantheses (( )) without inserting the citations.

I am using Mac OS Sonoma 14.5 and Word for Mac Version 16.86 (24060916) (Office 365).

I have authorised all permissions, and I do not get dialogue boxes asking for AppleEvents permissions. I have restarted the operating system as well as Word and Bookends multiple times, to no avail.

I have also started a Word document from scratch and pasted in my original Word document content and tried rescanning on that - no luck.

Not sure what the bug is...

I can manually insert the citations now (I am running up against a writing deadline), but I'd like to get this working again...

Thanks!

From this description I wonder if the format you are using is incorrect. If the Citation Options have an empty Order field, for example, you'd get the result you describe. Please try scanning with a different format, one that we distribute and that hasn't been edited, and see if the footnote citations now have content.

Hi Jon,

Indeed, you were correct. I changed the Scan Format to Chicago 17th (Notes) format, which I believe is built-in, and the scan worked.

Thanks for your insight.
