Is Scan not available for Apple Pages 12?

Post by KevenLee »

Dear All...
The "Scan Open Apple Pages Document" in my Mac mini m2 pro is always gray, not available for my Pages 12.
I have set "Word processor" for Pages, and have set the Link to Pages.
But still no changes....

Is Scan generally not available for Apple Pages 12?
Or, should I do something others?
I have checked the User Guide, have found nothing to help

Thank you so so much for all the helps.....

Hallo Jon,

Yes, the Pages document is open, and saved.
My Bookends is 14.2. Apple Pages is 12.2.1

Schould I uninstall my Bookends, and re-install it? Or, is there some tricky set-up?

Thank you so much.

There on no tricks as far as I know. I just tried scanning in Ventura with Pages 13 and there was no problem.

But you're not even scanning, your Biblio -> Scan Open Apple Pages Document is grayed out, right? That should only happen when Bookends can't detect that Pages is running. Reboot the Mac?

Hallo Jon,

thank you again for your reply.

I have rebooted the Mac, have re-installed both of the Bookends and Pages.
The "Scan Open Apple Pages Document" is still grayed out.

On the "Floating Citations and Llinks" the icon of Pages is shown.
And, wenn I click the "Copy Citation", nothing happens. I need to use "command + V" on Pages to add the Citation manually.

Is there any "Service" on Pages or Mac Os, should be activated for establishing the Link between Bookends and Pages?
I have Microsoft Words and Apple Pages in my Mac. The Bookends worked good with MS Words. Should I delete the MS Words?
My registration code was purchased Oct. 2022.

Best regards
Keven

Pages must be running and a document open for the menu to be enabled.

Additionally, Bookends must be able to send an AppleEvent to Pages to determine the version number. I'm guess you don't have permissions for this. You can try enabling that in System Preferences -> Privacy. But macOS is flaky. If you can't get permission, you can reset all AppleEvent permissions in Terminal with

tccutil reset AppleEvents

Now you should be asked to allow Bookends to talk to Pages the next time you use the Biblio menu.

Thank you so much for your help...
I have given up to keep trying....

I have set all the permissions in Privacy for Bookends, still does not work.
"tccutil reset all" was also successfully done.
And, at the Animation are only Boodends and MS Words. The Apple Pages is not shown....

Only one small function works after all the seting in Privacy: Wenn I click the "Citation" on "Floating Citations and Llinks", the citation will be added into the Pages. But the "Scan Open Apple Pages Document" is for ever grayed out..

I have to switch back to the MS Word...

Thank you so much again.

You might try another Mac, if you can, as a diagnostic.

FWIW, Word is more flexible than Papers. For example, you can scan and rescan a Word document, because it can retain hidden citations, but Papers documents can only be scanned once. If you are looking for a good alternative to Word that works great with Bookends, Mellel is an excellent choice. It has a learning curve, but it's powerful, works well with large documents, and has the best integration with Bookends of any app.
