Bookend Crash : a solution

Post by tlinet »

I had a strange behavior from Bookend. Everything worked perfectly until I started scanning and... boom bookend quit without any warning ! No crashing message from OS X.
Then I tried to re-open bookend... boom again. Quit without warning. The database refuse to open (boom) and seems to be corrupted.
I spent a lot of time on it... repairing the database, rebuilding and so on.
I found that a personal format was corrupted (can't editing it without a boom). I created another one and everything worked perfectly !

Yes, good detecting. When a rebuild fails to cure a problem like this, the format is the next place to look. FWIW, Bookends 9 should be more robust than older versions of Bookends -- the db engine has undergone a lot of work. It not a bad idea to rebuild your databases once you have converted them to Bookends 9 format -- any little problems that may have crept in will be eliminated.
