Two libraries in one doc?

Post by Blot »

Hi all

I have two distinct Bookend libraries, one for books and one for films. I don't particularly want to combine them. Is it possible to use both libraries to produce bibliographies and citations in a single document? I use Mellel.

Thanks in advance

No, that's not possible. You can of course keep your libraries separate for everyday work but merge them when needed to create a third library you use just for scanning. This FAQ describes several simple ways to merge libraries

https://www.sonnysoftware.com/support/f ... -libraries?

In your case you could create a new empty library and and drag and drop references from each individual library onto it.

Note that you can segregate discrete disciplines in a single library in several ways, the easiest perhaps being smart groups. For example, you might have a smart group that finds all references whose Type is Film (or whatever). Select it and any live searches you do will be restricted to your film references.

Yes, I've thought for a long time that merging may be inevitable.

However, I use so many static groups and folders in both libraries, and there are so many items in each library, I wonder whether it would be stable.

I will look into it again.

Thanks

You can copy/paste smart groups from one library to another. Note static groups, of course. The number of groups shouldn't matter (and they can be organized in folders/subfolders to keep things neat).
