Inconsistent incorrect appearance of metatype

I am stumped. I cannot figure out why a reference is not appearing correctly in my citation and in my bibliography.

It is a metatype. It is the book section of Book:Book Section metatype. I have both references correctly categorised in the inspector. I have use metatypes for all children selected in the format manager. The Book is an Edited Book type. I will give the Bibliography section codes in the format manager:

Edited Book: e$, ed++.$ t {[s]^} (l, d`)`.

Book Section [Book]: a, ‘t’, $in$ [t,$ ed. $e (l, d)], p-.

I compose in Scrivener, and export to MS Word and then import into Mellel. I then convert the text to citations, and scan in Mellel. The problem happens both in the Word export (I scanned it to see), and in Mellel. The problem persists if I delete the reference in Mellel and paste it in directly, convert text to references, and scan.

So here is the funny part. Here are three reference, which are identical in format so far as I can tell. The first displays correctly, the second and third do not. In the second and third, it looks like after the ’t’ code, I am getting the title of the book plus the year and page range that I have entered into the Book Section reference, which I don’t want. It then it continues what I do want, the section in [brackets] that gets the information from the Edited Book, i.e. the title, editor(s), etc. I don’t know why it is doing this. (Also notice that the book title pulled from the Book Section reference is not in italics -- the text editor I used to paste the formula into this field stripped out italics in the formula FYI).

Annas, J., ‘Knowledge and Language: The ‘Theaetetus’ and the ‘Cratylus’’, in Language and Logos: Studies in Ancient Greek Philosophy Presented to G.e.L. Owen, ed. Owen, G. E. L., Schofield, M., and Nussbaum, M. C. (Cambridge, 1982), 95-114.

Brémond, ‘Gorgias and Antilogic in Plato’s Parmenides’, Plato’s Parmenides. Selected Papers of the Twelfth Symposium Platonicum (2022), 101-14.Plato’s Parmenides: Selected Papers of the Twelfth Symposium Platonicum, ed. Brisson, L., Macé, A., and Renaut, O. (Sankt Augustin, 2022), 101-14.

Curd, P., ‘The Metaphysics of Physics: Mixture and Separation in Empedocles and Anaxagoras’, Presocratic Philosophy. Essays in Honour of Alexander Mourelatos (2016), 139-58.Presocratic Philosophy. Essays in Honour of Alexander Mourelatos, ed. Caston, V., and Graham, D. W. (Routledge, 2016), 139-58.

What makes it even more crazy is that, if I make a new Mellel document and just paste the Brémond reference in cold, and then scan it, it comes out correctly. Also, the Example Bibliography in the Format Manager, and the Formatted Reference Pane in the main editor both are correct. But if I copy and paste the reference from the paper where it isn’t appearing correctly into a new document, the problem persists. I have tried deleting the original citation from the Scrivener document, and pasting it in fresh from Bookends, but the problem persists.
Any ideas?

This shouldn't be a forum question, it's impossible to guess what is wrong with such a complex and inconsistent set of variables. Please send those 3 references and the format you created to support@sonnysoftware.com so we can take a look.
