Scan document does not work

Recently moved to a new computer. When i select scan documents it takes me to bookends but nothing happens. When i try to scan a a document from Bookends, all the word documents are greyed out and cannot be selected. I have word selected as my word processor. dont know how to troubleshoot this so it works.

It sounds like Bookends and Word don't have permission to send AppleEvents to each other. Go to System Settings -> Privacy -> Automation and see if both are shown, and if so make sure to enable communication between them. If you don't see them or changing the settings doesn't help, you can reset AppleEvents so that the next time you try to scan from Word you'll be asked to allow Word to communicate with Bookends, and then for Bookends to communicate with Word. You can do this using the Terminal app, entering

tccutil reset AppleEvents

(case is important). You can google and read about that. Here's one hit:

thanks for the reply. I looked at the automation settings, bookends was there and when i "open it", i saw that word was allowed.
I reset it via the terminal and it does not longer appear. When i launch word and asked it to scan the bibliography, it opens Bookends but nothing happens. I dont get ask to allow it to communicate.

I thought so. I ran into this problem myself yesterday (at least it seems like the same problem). Once you contact me we can look for a solution.

This is a bug in Sequoia 15.5, or at the very least a substantial change in behavior that is affecting the request for Word to access Bookends. I've come up with a workaround. When you contact me I'll send you a new build, and if it solves the problem for you, too, I'll make it available.
