For some reason I cannot output italics in BE 9. I recall that with one of the last upgrades in 8, I commented on the forum that in the View Formatted Window pane Chinese characters in titles were italicised (but should not be) when part of italic titles. Now, however, it seems that nothing is formatted in italics, neither in the View Formatted Window pane, nor when copying formatted into Mellel. Previously, Chinese characters appeared (incorrectly) in italics in the Window pane, but were not in italics when pasted into Mellel. Has anybody else experienced this?

Any suggestions?

Not I. If I option-drag or Copy Formatted, italics are pasted into Mellel just fine. Are your sure the font you are using has an italic face? This is a tech support issue in any event, so please contact us directly if you have problems with italic fonts and Mellel.
