Repeated crashes after scan

Hi,
I think I corrupted something and I can't open or repair my database now.
I have been using v9 since it was released and haven't had problems with it. Today, I scanned a document using APA 5th edition format, and the resulting document wasn't exactly like I wanted. For instance, the first occurence in the text of a 4-author article was cited as "Noller et al., 2004". So in an attempt to see if I could fix this, I went in Biblio->Formats manager , then clicked Edit with APA 5th edition highlighted, then went to Bib and Document Options, and in the Document: Cite By panel, I checked Custom format, with APA 5th in the drop-down menu. Then I closed the window, clicked Done, and from Word, I clicked on the Scan Document Icon, and then asked for just the bibliography to be generated (which was stupid because that's not what I wanted, but I didn't realize that until I saw what it was doing). Then I got the message that Bookends quit unexpectedly. So after restarting Bookends and failing to open my database (got the quit unexpectedly message), I tried repairing and rebuilding it. Repairing does something for a while and then I get the Quit Unexpectedly message. The file generated is 3.7 Mo, my original is 3.9. Rebuild just makes Bookends crash without a notice.
I copied the APA 5th format from the Bookends installation folder but it's not helping.
Sooo... What should I do? Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thanks for any help,
Ariane
