It seews that my multiple in-text references can either each be separated by () like this:

(Alvarez Martin et al., 1998)(Coghlan and O'Morain, 1988)(Korman, 1990)(Larsson et al., 2004)(Santos and Werlin, 1996)(Trujillo Rodriguez and Leo Carnerero, 2002)

Or by nothing, like this:

Albinus et al., 1691Barsingerhorn, 1739de Becius, 1653Botbeck, 1676Brotbeck et al., 1676Crause et al., 1698Friderici and Ledel, 1668Gerner, 1622Maler, 1692Mergiletus, 1701Michaelis and Boezo, 1638Schuster, 1658Ubelgun, 1719van der Burgh, 1684Wyberd, 1644.

What I want is them to begin and end with parens, but the others to be separated by a semi-colon, like this:

(Alvarez Martin et al., 1998; Coghlan and O'Morain, 1988; Korman, 1990; Larsson et al., 2004; Santos and Werlin, 1996)

Any thoughts?

You should group your temporary citations like this:

{cite1; cite2; cite3}

and Bookend will turn them into

(final ciation1; final citation2, final citation3)

(or whatever the format calls for -- in this case calling for a semicolon).
