problem with EndNote 8/9 xml import

There appears to be a problem with EndNote 8/9 xml import in Bookends 9.0.3. If a title has a superscript e, as in "XVIe" (=16th in French), Bookends appears to append a caret symbol. Actually, the problem may be a bit more complex, since the caret gets appended even if there isn't a superscript, and then there are cases where it isn't appended at all.
Is this a known problem?
