References in footnotes

I'm new to Bookends and having difficulty with references or citations as footnotes, not at the end of the document. How does one copy a temporary reference to a footnote, then when reading have Bookends change the tempory reference to a properly formated citation? The users manual gives instructions for putting the temp reference in the text of the document and then scanning to create number references and a bibliography at the end of the document. I don't want it at the end, I would like footnotes on each page. How do you do that?

If you want a footnote citation replaced by a formatted final citation, you need to specify a custom citation format during the scan. That is, a format that will be used to replace temporary citations (as opposed to the "built-in" author-date or number citations). Details can be found in the User Guide, a separate download from our site.
