Spring makeover for Bookends' GUI?

Post by ablaze »

As much as I love Bookends, its GUI feels a bit anachronistic today.

I tried to do some little spring makeover for Bookend in Photoshop.

It has unified toolbar with standard info-icon and a nice placeholder text for the info where the search is performed.

The only thing I don't like about my suggestion is the lousy icon that replaced the "book" icon. Other than that I think this would be a nice facelift for Bookends, giving it a bit colour here and there, not too much, just to make it a bit more attractive, and adjusting the interface elements for Tiger looks.

What do you think of it?

It looks pretty. Some elements don't make a lot of sense (like the combobox for selecting formats -- it really should be a regular popup men). And I'm not sure that green and red make a lot of sense for enlarge and shrink (go and stop?). But it does look pretty. Thanks for the mockup.

BTW, since your artistic skills surpass mine, if you would like, you can send the icons to me (with an "up" and a "depressed" shading, if you have it). In fact, I invite anyone who would like to do to this. Perhaps I can use them...

Thanks,
