Feature Requests for the Journal Glossary

Hi,
the journal glossary is a very nice tool, which still could be improved to make Bookends much more comfortable.
It would be great if the glossary would contain more fields for:
- journal editor
- publishing house
- address
- url
- address
- journal-history
Every information which is put in here than should be usable while making bibliographies also when I haven't input these informations to the according fields of the single references. (If the generation of a bibliography will take its information directly from the journal glossary or if the reference-fields are filled automatically if the type is set to journal article, doesn't matter from my point of view as long as there would be an option of automatic update when the journal glossary entries are changed.)
This would make it much more comfortable to work with journal articles because a lot of input-work will drop out.
I hope the idea is understable, best regards, reiner

Hi Reiner,
The Journal Glossary fills several functions. I assume you mean the expansion feature (type in a few characters and Bookend substitutes the full name)? If so, autocomplete was created for that purpose -- any field can use autocomplete if you create a Term List for it.

Autocomplete is nice, but then I have to fill each field separately too. What I mean is that I put in the journal abbreveation and then all other fields are filled automatically (if journal glossary contains values for the fields) and are also automatically refilled if the entries in the journal glossary are changed.

I'm afraid I don't understand, then, and don't see the general applicability of this request. Each journal article is unique -- the volume, url, page numbers, etc. will change for each one. If you are entering multiple references from the same source (e.g. chapters from an edited book) you can use the Duplicate command to do what you want, and just replace the unique information as needed.

it seams I'm not able to make precise english sentences.
the fields
- journal editor
- publishing house
- address
- url
- address
- journal-history
are not unique for each journal article but are the same for all articles from the same journal. there are of course a few special cases but regulary I think this is true. And I would love to insert these dates only once.
Maybe somone understood what I mean and can explain it in other words?

Hi Reiner,
I'm beginning to see what you are getting at. But do you really mean journal article? Or something else? Certainly in the sciences, with which I am most familiar, author address and article URL are unique to each article. Journal editor and publishing house is never used (not sure what journal-history is).
For now, in any case, you can use the Duplicate function in some cases. And you may find Command-' useful -- it copies the field from the previous reference to the field the cursor is in at the moment.

I'm consoled. I can tell what I mean
author's address? I never thought of that. I ever thought of the redaction's address.
article's url? I thougt of journal's url because online publishing of article's is not usual in Germany yest, at least not in education and social sciences.
journal history means the history of the journal: different editors through the years. new publishing house, new location etc.
but I see there are many different needs for that, so a solution should be very user-definable: which field should be used for that etc.
That there is no new misunderstanding: I don't need this very urgent. It was just an idea to make Bookends once again better.
best regards, reiner
