Hi,

I would like to have a link on my web page that serves all the files included in a particular static group from within the chosen database. However, I can't find a way for selecting the references. There does n't appear to be a search field that corresponds to static groups that references belong to.

Two solutions would be:
1. To export all references to separate databases
2. Or use one of the user defined fields and paste in the names of static groups and then query that field for the names of particular static groups I would like to display.

But both of these methods would be a bit of a pain to keep updating. I would be grateful if someone could tell me if I am missing something obvious or whether there is a more elegant solution.

Hi Matthew,

Since references don't know they are part of a static group (only the static group knows that), you can't search based on that criterion. One option you described (#2) should work well, and it might not be too much of a pain if you do something like this:

Give all items in a static group the same keyword (or use a user-defined field as you suggest) -- e.g., the name of the static group. This can be done by clearing the Hits List, clicking on the group name, marking all references in the group (Action menu, or Shift-click on a mark checkbox), then doing a Global Change -> Change Field (for members of the Hits List).

Alternatively, you can make them smart groups by entering the name of the group to the record (e.g in the keywords field) when you want to make it part of that group. Then search for the smart group's name to return all members of that group.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will give option #2 ago using your global change stratgey to add the name of the static group to a user defined field.
