Only year in APA Style

I'm new to Bookends and Mellel (after getting very frustrated at Word and Endnote on my Intel Mac). I love the integration thus far and they are so quick compared to what I was suffering through with my previous programs. There is one small thing that I cannot figure out how to do, yet. How do I change a citation to include only the year for APA style:

Smith (2006) found...

I have numerous instances of this format when I converted from Word/Endnote, but I can't figure out how to do this with Bookends. Thank you.

Hi Zach,

Open the citation in Mellel (double-click on it) and place a % at the beginning. Now Bookends will supply just the year when the paper is scanned.

Hi Jon,

A few releases back you had mentioned you were going to include an updated APA format. There was a workaround for the "et al." and some other author issues in the text where we had to create another format, alter some of the in-text citation stuff, then have the original APA format refer to the new one. I've been using that setup for a while, but haven't checked to see if the new releases have that all taken care of.

Thanks.

Hi,

We released the updated APA format a while ago. Write to me directly and I'll send the latest to you (support@sonnysoftware.com).

I have the most recent version of Bookends, so I assume I have the most updated version of APA format. There are a couple of things that aren't quite working right still. I have the setting for multiple authors to only display the year and separate with comma, but it does not do this when I scan the document in Mellel. For example I want (Smith, 1990, 2006) to display not (Smith, 1990; Smith, 2006). Additionally, I have the hanging indent box checked in the preferences, but there is no hanging indent when the references are generated. Is there a setting in Mellel that I have to set to get these settings from Bookends to take? Thanks.

The ability to generate (Smith 2001, 2003) only works for author-date citations, not custom citations. If you want author-date citations (not footnotes), then tell the APA format to do that.

As for the hanging indent, I don't know why you're not seeing that. Perhaps a setting in Mellel is overriding what Bookends is sending?
